Great writing puts us in touch with those who have struggled before us and who are struggling elsewhere; their words show us possibilities for our own lives we may have overlooked. The printed word instructs us in a way no blaring shadow-and-light television or computer screen can.

Technology alienates us from each other and ourselves. It isolates us, displacing our dreams and desires-- our appreciation for life and the real world's richness and variety-- with market-tested falsehoods. It's lies! It's toxic fucking lies! It reflects nothing but the avaricious agendas of its creators. It's actively oppressive, designed to instill fear, to promote capitalism and to dangerously disinform you. Television and the internet is a pyschological assault, engineered to bring you into line.

Let's break free! Let's meet one another in person, let's share a calm, anti-authoritarian space. Let's open ourselves to the ideas that the written word can bring, and have conversations.
